• Design and install a raised zebra crossing on Matisi St, south of Collins St

Rationale

This is a common location for students to cross Matisi St on their way to Thornbury High School, on Collins St.

Matisi St can be congested with cars, especially during the start and end of the school day. In Your Street, Your Say - Group B Stage 1, we heard this can make it dangerous and difficult for students to cross the road.

A raised zebra crossing will help slow cars down and provide a safe place for people walking and riding to Thornbury High School and other destinations nearby to cross Matisi St. The existing pedestrian refuge island on Matisi St will be removed.

More safety improvements nearby are proposed in Priority Project 4: Jones St and Collins St intersection and Priority Project 8: Dundas St between Victoria St and Matisi St.
