Proposal

Rationale

Lots of people walk and ride through these intersections on their way to Penders Park, Thornbury Kindergarten, Pender’s Grove Primary School and other local destinations.

In Your Street, Your Say - Group B Stage 1 we heard it can be hard for people walking and riding bikes to cross at these roundabouts, and it can feel unsafe because car drivers go too fast on Newcastle St. Traffic speed data confirms there is a pattern of drivers speeding on Newcastle St.

Upgrading these roundabouts with raised zebra crossings on all four sides will help slow cars down and improve safety for all road users. The zebra crossings will make crossing Newcastle St, Pender St, and Collins St easier and safer for people walking.

More safety improvements nearby are proposed in Priority Project 1: Dundas St and Newcastle St intersection.
