Proposal

Rationale

Victoria Rd is an important route for people who ride bikes to many local destinations, including Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre, and local parks, schools, and childcare centres. The section of Victoria Rd between South Cres and Separation St has sections with a painted, on-road bike lane, and sections with a shared parking and bike lane.

In Your Street, Your Say - Group B Stage 1 we heard people who ride bikes do not feel safe on Victoria Rd, between South Cres and Separation St. Riding next to parked cars puts people at risk of being hit by car drivers pulling in and out of parking bays, and people opening car doors into the bike lane.

This project will investigate options for separated bike lanes on Victoria Rd. This includes the feasibility and impacts of removing some on-street car parking spaces between South Cres and Separation St. The findings of the investigation will inform the design of separated bike lanes on Victoria Rd. We will seek further community feedback before making any changes to Victoria Rd.

Separated bike lanes would make traveling on Victoria Rd safer for people who ride bikes and help encourage more people in Darebin to ride.

Priority Project 15 proposes investigating separated bike lanes on Victoria Rd, between Separation St and Darebin Rd.
