Making Darebin an electric vehicle-friendly city

29 July 2022

Our new Electric Vehicle Charging Policy is supporting Darebin residents to own and use electric vehicles. They are an important tool in our fight against the climate emergency, and they’re becoming more popular with every year.

The policy provides certainty to property developers on our planning requirements for electric vehicle charging in new developments. It also helps us promote convenient charging options for all residents and visitors and expand our network of convenient electric vehicle charging stations across Darebin – making it easier to make the switch from petrol vehicles.

Thanks to everyone who had their say on our draft policy earlier this year. We incorporated your feedback in the final plan by:

  • including requirements for smart EV charging to futureproof our charging network
  • ensuring site context is considered when deciding on appropriate levels of charging infrastructure in new developments
  • considering accessibility, user types and parking demands for public charging locations
  • looking for opportunities to incorporate Wurundjeri Woiwurrung land and culture education and information in projects.
The policy was endorsed by Council in June 2022. Read more at Electric vehicle charging policy | Darebin Council
