The Special Rates Levy was endorsed at the 24 June Council meeting with other 2024/25 Budget documents. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

We love our vibrant neighbourhoods and recognise the important part our local businesses play in making Darebin such an important and unique place to visit for locals and tourists alike.

We want to keep new visitors and shoppers coming to our local precincts to support local business.

One way we support thriving neighbourhoods is by collecting a Special Rate Levy for Business Associations to use for the promotion of business and commerce in our business precincts.

The Special Rate Levy is collected through the rates, from businesses located in the dedicated precincts in Darebin. The funds collected go towards marketing and promoting the businesses within the precincts and are also used to market the precinct to attract new visitors and shoppers.

Darebin currently has four precincts in the Special Rate Scheme, three of the current Special Rate Levy's are due for renewal.

  • Preston Central Business precinct
  • Fairfield Village Business precinct
  • Northcote Business precinct

The fourth precinct is Reservoir, this was renewed in 2022.

New Special Rate Levy's for these business precincts are being announced. Before we finalise and adopt the new Special Rate Levy's as part of our Revenue and Rating Plan on 24 June, we want you to have the opportunity to make a formal submission by 12pm on 30 May 2024.
