The owners of the Northcote Plaza site have submitted a revised application for development to VCAT, which will be heard early in November. Council is opposed to the latest proposal on a number of grounds, including excessive height, poor design and insufficient community benefit.
Residents and others who are interested can register with VCAT by no later than 13 October 2021 by lodging a written submission (formally called a “Statement of Grounds”), quoting appeal reference: P782/2021. You can do that via www.vcat.vic.gov.au/respondplanning (External link).
Earlier this year, Council unanimously rejected a redevelopment proposal for the site. The owners appealed this decision to VCAT and have amended their proposal while waiting for this case to be heard.
The proposed site is the southern side of Northcote Plaza, and does not include other parts of the site which are owned separately. See aerial diagram below.
