This year we are focused on delivering year two of our 4-Year Council Plan, building on the progress already underway.

We have developed the budget to balance current community needs with future priorities, while maintaining long-term financial sustainability.

Like households across Darebin, Council is facing tighter financial circumstances. Costs have increased and our budget doesn’t go as far as it once did.

We have prioritised maintaining essential services that many in our community rely on, and continuing to care for the assets and infrastructure that support daily life - from parks and trees to drains and buildings.

We have carefully considered what is most important now and will continue to review priorities for future years.

We are also exploring creative ways to support and fund community services and infrastructure into the future.

The 2026/27 budget is using a submission process. A formal submission is a request to suggest a specific change to the budget. When making a submission, it helps to be clear and specific. You might like to outline what specific change you are suggesting to the budget and why it should be considered. Including details such as the potential scope, indicative change in budget, or the issue to be addressed can also strengthen your submission. If you wish to provide it, supporting material like photos, quotes, maps or links to relevant reports or evidence can be useful for Council when reviewing proposals.

Submissions must be received by 5pm on 27 May 2026 via the online submission form or in writing using the options below.

A Hearing of Submissions Committee Meeting will be held on 9 June 2026.

Council will consider endorsing the budget and its associated documents at a Special Council meeting on 30 June.
